Main Water Line Replacement Services
Main water line is the pipe that brings water to your home from the city’s water supply. This means it runs across your property and enters your home at a point where your water meter would also be installed. Replacement of the main water line is unfortunately not a DIY project and requires permits and a licensed plumber.
What is the cost of the main water supply replacement?
There is no way to provide the actual cost without assessing the property. The largest factor will be the length of the pipe that needs to be replaced, how deep the current line is buried, the trenchless or trenched installation method, and the cost of materials to replace it.
What does the replacement involve?
The area will be checked for all utilities and later excavated to uncover the existing line. Experienced crew will work to minimize the disruption to your property as the lines often run across your front yard, possibly under your landscaping or a driveway. The goal is to fix the supply in a timely fashion with minimal disruption to your life and property. Generally, the project can be finished within a few hours. In more complex installations, it may require a few days.
How to know When a Main Water line Needs to be Replaced
It is not always easy to determine whether your main water line needs replacement. Generally, the first sign will be a drop in water pressure. This would occur throughout the house and would not be limited to just one water supply location. Discolored water, usually with a rust tint or a strange odor would suggest corrosion in the water supply piping and a need for replacement. Other common signs of the main water supply failure are wet and soggy spots in the yard and areas of pooling water unrelated to rainfall. This would be a result of an underground leak in the main pipe. Sometimes, the only way to spot a water line leak is an increase in the water bill with a fairly standard monthly use.
